1st 120 rnds through my new 300 blk today and noticed this tonight:

Attached File

I've never had so much brass on any of my 5.56 bolts even when brand new. A little dust, but nothing this excessive.

I wish I picked up the casings to inspect.

Looks about normal for what I have seen on my .300's when I first shot them.

I see a few flecks of brass and some unburned powder, what length of barrel and what type of gas length?

most 300 blk ammo will do that , just wait until you put a can on it

Haven't heard much good about the magtech ammo, thought about picking up a case myself until I watched a video review and read a few.

ETA: did you have any malfunctions? Blown primers? FTE or FTF?

I dont think I had any issues with the magtechs, but I started to have a few issue towards the end with the Sig subs. A couple of FTE, then one or two failure to battery.

For now, I'm chalking it up to break-in, and subs in an un-suppressed 8" barrel.

Also, I dont normally run my ar's as wet as some, so I'm thinking I may need to run this 300 a little more wet at least for a while or until suppressed.

I am running a standard spring and carbine buffer.

Cant wait to find out though.

Powder buffer to fill case volume in Sub-sonic 300 black ammo to give more uniform pressure and velocities.  When I shoot factory subs , the yellow/ white particulate gets everywhere. Normal.

That junk gets all in my lower receiver. Especially when shooting Gemtech 187.

I don't shoot 300blk but a guy i know has a small commercial 300blk operation and his test rifle looks like someone shoveled sand down into his lower.  That stuff isn't unburned powder but is filler... it is particularly bad with subsonic loads because it is used to boost the volume inside the cartridge without increasing the amount of propellant so that the powder doesn't come out of contact with the primer.  At least that is my understanding of it.

How did the Sigs shoot? I always wanted to get some, its probably hard to tell with only a box.

i believe you are correct with the "filler" being most of it.  there is some unburnt powder and brass mixed in though.

if you shoot alot of 300 blk subsonic make sure to shoot your can on a 308 or 556 gun if you can to clean it out , that stuff gets everywhere
