My rifle was knocked off the table at the range, now it has some ugly cinder block rash on the lower receiver. I plan on buying a new lower and just changing out all the parts. Can i reuse all the parts, or will i need new roll pins ? The new lower i was looking at is a CMMG, and it states the hammer/trigger pin hole is .154" and the pivot pin holes are .250"  I have never built a lower, and I am not sure if the parts i have will work with the new receiver. My current receiver is a Bushmaster XM15-E2s but i cant seem to find pin hole sizes listed anywhere. Will the parts i have work ? Thanks for any info.

You can reuse all of your parts.  The roll pins shouldn't be a problem, but if you are worried you can either order new ones or get the sizes(can't remember off the top of my head) and buy replacements at a hardware store.

How bad is the lower?  Let me know if you want to sell it.

A lot of people will tell you to get some Aluma-Black or a Birchwood casey Super black touch up pen and go to town.  You could also try some Alumahyde or cerakote or duracoat and refinish it yourself.

If you decide to get a new lower I would just spend the extra money and get a Lower parts kit (LPK) and build the lower. Then just take the tube off the Bushmaster and swap that.  Also remember to get a new end plate so a new one can be properly staked.   If you have a sling or are planing to get one a endplate with a quick detach can be nice I have a couple from Noveske.   If something isn't right you can order small parts from different vendors and some will put the small parts in a envelope so the shipping isn't crazy. I would also go to the Hometown section and see if anyone in your area has the tools you need and has built a lower before.  Most folks are willing to help you and a sandwich and a beverage of choice can go a long way... at least in my book

If it happened to me:  I would refinish it.  Buying new parts leads to BRD (Black Rifle Disease) and the rifles in your collection multiply very rapidly.

Striker speaks the truth.

Any spare parts you have laying around will end up turning into another project and a complete rifle sooner or later.

if i had a new rifle for every time i scratched mine i would have an armory big enough to take out a small country.  its a gun. it was designed as a combat rifle. it was meant to be scratched.  you sound like someone who got upset that they scratched their jeep offroading.

It's not just a scratch, it's bad, it's bad enough to almost take out the S and H in Bushmaster, and it looks like crap, i could care less what you think, but i think it looks like S@#T, so i am replacing it. Any other comments ?

Yeah, congrats on your Bu-Master (or Bus-Mater) !

But seriously, everything should be reusable, provided it wasn't damaged in the crash.

+1 for just shoot it

If you are running your rifle like it deserves to be run then it'll be covered in scratches soon enough. A rifle that has acquired dings and scratches from good honest shooting is a happy rifle.

Beyond that your fine with reusing most of your parts, but I would probably just sell the complete lower as is and get a new lower with a PSA MIAD LPK... And a milspec RE. And it would be an excuse to buy a new BADASS... And might as well get a new VLTOR stock... Hell throw a Geissele in there too.

But that's just me.

How about a pic of bad scratch?

I will post a pic in a day or so, i don't have a card reader on this pc, and i cant find my usb cord for my camera. When my friend knocked my rifle off the table, he tried to catch it, and just made it hit harder than it would if it would have fell on it's own and It hit right on the corner of a cinder block. I may use this receiver as a camo project later on, but the cinder block mark is pretty rough, rough enough to scratch you when you rub your finger across it. You will see what i mean when i post a pic later. As for buying a complete lower, i dont really have the money to put into it at the moment, i spent close to $300 on my back up iron sight's.

Dumb question... You realize replacing the lower will require a 4473...

Also, seconds on buying the scratched one.

OK Not saying a complete lower but close

So for 125.00 plus your shipping and transfer fees ... done and done.

All you have to do is swap out the stock and you are done...

Then you have a lower minus stock to do your camo job.

Have your buddy who dropped it buy you the lower and you can pay him back for half.  Would be fair....

just throw it down the driveway and make the other side match

Yes i realize that i have to have the lower registered, i have a local FFL holder that i have used a few times before who will order it for me. After reading a bit, i am actually looking forward to this project, i have always wanted to build my own rifle. If i enjoy building this lower, i just might build me an upper to match.

You are gonna catch the BRD.

I would keep the rifle as it is, and buy the parts to build a new one, with better than shrubmaster parts.  Since it already has a scar, you will be less concerned about babying it in the future, and you can build a truly excellent rifle at your leisure.

I have to support the OP on this one.  Nothing wrong with a tool that performs well and looks good at the same time.

Also has anyone had something that everytime you look at it it bugs you....just goes right up your crack.  That would be me in this instance.

well after a few months go by and you can't afford the new project. I'll take that dusty lower off your hands for disposal...

I think you'll enjoy the hell out of it!  Warning - as others have already stated, BRD is highly likely.
