Thought I would post my chrono results on two different lots of SB SS109 and Igman blacktip SS109. The Chronograph was a F-1 Chrony setup at roughly 15 feet from the muzzle. The rifle was a Colt 6400 with a 1x7 16" barrel. Ambient Temperature was 75F and elevation was roughly 1000 feet.
First ammo tested was some 94 SB, lot # 01-SB-94. This was bought back a few years when SB first showed up on the market. Results are as follows:
Five shots at velocites of:
2965
2956
2919
2949
2991
Mean = 2956, Std. Dev. = 26.1
Second ammo tested was 93 SB, lot # 03-SB-93. This was bought recently from Sportmans Guide and came in battlepacks.
Velocities are as follows:
2949
2917
2935
2933
2911
Mean = 2929, Std. Dev. = 15.2
Third ammo tested was 02 Igman, lot # IK 02-02. This was bought recently from AIM Surplus.
Velocities:
2953
2985
3021
2985
2995
Mean = 2988, Std. Dev. = 24.4
No failures to function of any kind for all three lots of ammo. The SB rims looked OK, there was a little bit of rim deformation but not any worse than seen on other types of ammo. The day was fairly cloudy and the muzzle flash from the SB was quite evident through a 4x scope. There was no noticable flash from the igman stuff. Both lots of SB shot to the same point of aim, the igman hit about 1 to 2 inches lower at 100 meters.
Shot both the SB and Igman at a 1" thick steel plate, both penetrated a little deeper than M192 (maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch more) with the igman penetrating a little bit more, but not by much.
