I recently "Inherited" some "Small Arms", along with a quantity of ammo for 'em...there is one lot of 5.56 mm ammo that has me stumped. It is packaged 60 rounds to the box, in brown cardboard boxes, marked "60 Cart". "5,56 mm SS92" and "FN Herstal" on the top flap. The rounds are headstamped with "F N" and "7 7"...I'm guessing they were amnufactured in '77 by FN Herstal in Belgium, but...what is "SS 92"??? What weight bullets would they have? I'm guessing that, at thirty years old, they are probably safe to fire, but...I'm thinking I shouldn't expect too much in the way of accuracy from 'em. Anybody? Thanks....mikey357

I don't know for sure, but a quick Google search suggests is was FN's M193 clone.

Here is the skinny, from my experience, on what you have.  I had some of the same ammo a few yrs ago, seems to be nothing more than 55 grain M193 type bullet.  Packed 60 rds to the box, good quality ammo in my opinion regardless of the age. Mfg in 1977, good shooting ammo, I also had some of the FN SS109 type ammo from early M16A2 trials back in the early 80's or so.  They called it a different bullet from the SS109/M855 though I can't remember what it was.  Regardless, you have a good product there and I would shoot it with no hesitations.  Hope this helps...Tommy.

Yup, SS92 is the FN designation for the 55gr M193 type bullet. Just like SS109 is their designation for the M855 type bullet.
FN is a superb company. You scored some very good ammo there.
