I want to put a slick side upper on my next build.  It will be a pistol, so I don't want to go with the DPMS lo pro, as they weigh more than a standard upper.  There is a VLTOR upper that has no FA, but has the shell deflector, and I'd like to go completely slick.

Besides the DPMS, what options are out there for something without a FA and without a brunton bump?

(I thought there was a thread on this recently but my search-fu is weak.)

I think the Vltor one can come without a bump as well. I think it's totally modular.

You may want to try aero precision, I think they have a total slick side upper available.

I see them with the FA but I haven't seen one sold without the bump.  I've seen where people have removed the bump to paint/coat, but even that supposedly voids the warranty and leaving it off would leave an opening from what I've seen.

Are those "over built" and heavy than a typical flat top upper?  They look nice, that is what I'm leaning towards at this point.

On their website they have a few models with no FA, but they all have the shell deflector.

They are defiantly thicker than a normal forged upper.  Don't buy one thinking you are going to save weight because it lacks the FA and deflector, but It's probably lighter than other billets with all the bells and whistles though.

Use a real 604 upper or get one of the Fulton Aromry slick sides uppers when they are in stock.

Rock River Arms and Model 1 Sales 9mm uppers.  They are flat top forgings with no FA or deflector.  You will need to drill the gas tube hole.  Not a big deal.

There's always the Colt 604 route if you wanted a carry handle.

Mega machine  has click side uppers, but they are a bit in the heavy side.

Thanks for all the responses.  I ended up finding a used VLTOR without the FA in the EE and went with that.  The deflector on those is pretty small and I may just take it off anyway.

My last build was an A2 carry handle 16", I wanted to do something different this time around.

next step will be deciding on 7.5" or 10.5" bbl.
