I built a spikes middy ar and am having an issue. The gun will fire but I have to pull the charging handle back after each round. Everything looks to be in order. Any ideas?

Sounds like no gas getting to the BCG. Either  the gas tube not lined up with vent in barrel or a blockage of said gas tube.

Misaligned gas block? Blocked gas tube? Severe gas leak around carrier key or gas block? Gas rings damaged or missing? Those would be my first thoughts. Does it eject the empty shell on its own, or does it occur when you pull the CH back? The first instance would sound like short cycling, the second would sound like there is no (or very very little) gas pressure coming through. Both would relate to various degrees of blockage (or a complete disconnect somewhere) due to one or more of the things I listed.

What buffer are you using and ammo?
