Hey guys, I like the advantages that a rifle mounted light offers but I dislike rails and all kinds of ninja stuff and I've been looking for a simple setup.
I'm thinking about getting a set of Magpul MOE handguards and mount a rail at the 2 o'clock position. I'm looking at either the Surefire G2 LED or the Surefire 6P, not sure which. I'm also looking at adding a Pelican tape switch, is this a good piece or is there something better? Also, what ring should I use to mount it? The VTAC looks good except it's offset, I'll use it if I have to but I'd prefer a ring that is not offset. Thanks. |

Correct.
I am right handed and am not using a VFG. I'm thinking 10 o'clock is ideal as it won't interfere with my side mounted sling. And, I used an 870 with a light many years ago at the range and it used a pressure pad. I think it was one of those Tacstar lights. But, I've liked the tape switch/pressure pad thing since. |

tag The examples I mentioned are pretty much what are in this thread, and will do you much better than the tubesock-type method you were thinking of earlier. These lock the lights in place so that they will not be shifting in orbit around your handguard. |

For those with standard handguards wishing to mount a Light, our Elzetta ZFH1500 is a popular option.
It provides an inexpensive way to mount a Light to your gun without the need for a rail system. It is light weight, durable, ambidextrous, and adds no width to the weapon allowing storage in most gun racks and cases. Thumb Screw models allow rapid installation and removal of flashlights without tools. Elzetta ZFL-M60 Weapon Light shown in OD Green ZFH1500 Thumb Screw Model: www.ELZETTA.com |

No, but the angle is so slight, the spot of the light still winds up pointing at my point of aim. IMO, it's a non-issue. |
