Anyone make a side cocker similar to Rock Rivers PDS? Are they now selling complete uppers?

American Spirit Arms has one. It uses a similar slide type dust cover as an M-60. I did some simple ones for a few of my buddies. I took existing uppers and machine a 3/16 slot in the driver side. I used a carbide end mill to put a .250 bolt hole in the carrier just forward of cam pin retainer. All is done thru center line.
It works fine but the slot is always open. Would not be ideal in real dirty environments. |

I just do not know why anyone would want an AR with a side cocking handle, that caused the reciever to have a long opening in it???
One of the advantages of the AR IMHO, is that it is mostly a closed reciever system. With a mag in place and the dust cover closed, it is hard for debris to get in. I have never had any problems working the cocking handle with either hand... What is to Gain, by a side cocking handle? |

I like the fact I can charge my rifle easily while in the prone and I can also charge my rifle while on target. That being said I still shoot regular AR's just fine. |
