Just purchased a 9.0 FF tube for my Colt.  Local gunsmith installed it and all seemed tight when I picked it up.  Took it to the range to sight in my Troy BUIS and EoTech.  Started to get it dialed in switching back and forth between the BUIS and the EoTech.  Then I started chasing groups left and right.  Figured out that the new FF tube is rotating back and forth a 1/16" stopping on the anti roll device.  I checked the hex bolts on the anti roll device and they are tight.  The knurled ring seems tight but I don't have a strap wrench to check.  Could the barrel nut be loose?  I purchased the rail to mount the EoTech farther forward to work with my PVS 14 and 3X lens.  Any suggestions would be great._M4

here are the larue instructions from the Larue website. With this new knowledge either fix it yourself or go back to your gunsmith and see that he corrects his mistake

sounds like you should take it back to the gunsmith to get it redone or ask for some sort of refund

Found the problem tonight.  Looks like the barrel nut is loose.  I tore it apart and put it back together with the same sloppy results.  When you look into the FF tube from the rear you can see the barrel nut moving when you rock the handguard.  Unfortunately I do not have the tools to correct the problem.  Looks like another trip to the smith.   Thanks for your help_M4.

Yeah, tell him you would like the barrel nut tight this time.

Makes the install much easier if you leave it loose I guess.

Sounds like original installer did not go to the next hole after hand tightening the barrel nut...

Yojimbo- you are correct.  The smith torqued the barrel nut to the 30ft/lbs spec and left it there.  He cranked it down to the next hole today and tightened everyting up.  Seems pretty good now.  We will see how it holds up at the range later this week_M4.

If he torqued to 30ft/lbs, it should have been fine.  Something sounds fishy, I bet he never tightend it up.

If he tightened it the first time it would not have been loose. It's not like the thing can come loose with a gas tube running through it.

JL7- The smith I took the rifle to deals mostly in Troy Industries tubes.  I suspect he was not real familiar with the LaRue install.  He was afraid to go too tight.  He was more than accomodating in making it right.  I will put it through its paces later this week to confirm all is OK.  I will let you know how it turns out.  I suspect everyting is OK now based on some fairly rough handling so far_M4.

Stick- anychance you want to donate that "couple hundred rounds" so I can confirm all is well!!h.gif
