speaking for my Shop built (GTI) 16" middy with LT 9.0, no it should not have ANY slop..............

+1 here are the larue instructions from the Larue website. With this new knowledge either fix it yourself or go back to your gunsmith and see that he corrects his mistake

Yeah, tell him you would like the barrel nut tight this time.  Makes the install much easier if you leave it loose I guess.

Sounds like original installer did not go to the next hole after hand tightening the barrel nut...

Yojimbo- you are correct. The smith torqued the barrel nut to the 30ft/lbs spec and left it there. He cranked it down to the next hole today and tightened everyting up. Seems pretty good now. We will see how it holds up at the range later this week_M4.

If he torqued to 30ft/lbs, it should have been fine. Something sounds fishy, I bet he never tightend it up. Weazer |

+1 If he tightened it the first time it would not have been loose. It's not like the thing can come loose with a gas tube running through it. |

M4shooter,
Do us a favor and run some dry drills, fire off a couple hundred rounds, and work some positional shooting. My concern is that it is a pretty straight forward rail to install, and if there is still a problem, it would be a good idea to get it rediscovered quickly. |

He could have tightened it to 30FP. But the correct way to do it is to tighten, losen, tighten, losen & then tighten to 30 foot pounds.
This way you know it's sitting properly. |

JL7- The smith I took the rifle to deals mostly in Troy Industries tubes. I suspect he was not real familiar with the LaRue install. He was afraid to go too tight. He was more than accomodating in making it right. I will put it through its paces later this week to confirm all is OK. I will let you know how it turns out. I suspect everyting is OK now based on some fairly rough handling so far_M4.
