I got a RRA 18" bull barrel. Looking at a Millet 4-12x56 Buck Gold Varmit scope. Question is do you guys like Mil Dot or Duplex reticle?

I like the duplex, and thank you for asking

But it's what you intend to do that's the important thing. If you're actually intending on ranging unknown distances without a laser range finder, then go with the Mil-Dot. If you just need a good aiming point, then you only need the duplex.

You can use a duplex to measure things out in the field of view just using a NRA center fire target set at 100 yards. Pick a power (or repeat for all powers if you choose,) and measure the thin cross wire against the target. You can choose to measure using only a half of the thin part or the whole thin part.

Anyway, the design of the target is that the X-ring is 2 MOA wide. The 10 ring is 4 MOA wide, and so on. Just compare the thin wire to to the areas on the target that it covers and write it down so you don't forget.

After wards you can make the associations necessary when looking at known objects through the scope.
