I'm dumb when it comes to buffers, and I'm tired of searching. Can you gurus just tell me what buffer set up I need so I can go ahead and buy it?

18" barrel SPR, rifle length gas system. It will be suppressed about half of the time.

What stock?

Rifle stock or PRS - rifle buffer.

Tag for info. I, too have a SPR, upper from High Caliber Sales. 18in, rifle gas, carbine buffer tube with I think a spikes tactical heavy buffer. Also would like to run it suppressed in the future.

Rifle Length action spring and Rifle buffer, in a rifle length receiver extension, with a M16 butt stock if you can find one....

I haven't bought the stock yet, so I'm open to suggestions.

But I'm not 100% sold on a rifle or prs stock. Can I pull it off with an adjustable stock?

If you get a collapsing stock, I recommend the VLTOR A5 Kit. It replicates a rifle buffer system in a collapsing stock. Very smooth.

If you want a more precision style setup, there is the Magpul PRS. Heavy and long but adjustable and can mount a monopod.

If you use an A5 or a rifle stock, use the A5H2 (standard) or the rifle (standard) buffer. If you use a carbine buffer system, use an H2 buffer.

honestly, the need for the rifle length buffer and action spring is only if you are going to fire full auto, put whatever you want on there if its only a semi.

I used a Magpul ACS on mine (needed the adjustment to fit all family members) standard spring with a Spike's ST-T2 (H2) buffer driven by a rifle length gas port.   Cycles very smooth.  Brass at 4 o'clock with commercial.  Brass at 3 o'clock on hotter hand loads.

It's nice on accurate rifles so you can spot strikes. I find that much easier with a longer recoil system.

it depends.

the bolt bounce is the real reason that SPR's went from a SOPMOD upper receiver to an entire weapons system, and we were never really ever able to get that cat back in the bag(Carbine buffers and action springs), even when it resulted in say 80% of a units sniper weapons to be deemed NMC.

What buffers were they trying to use? H?

Just taking a Mk12 upper and using it like an old SPR upper, putting it on an M4 lower.......

So it most likely had an H, unless someone stole it and put their AR15 buffer  in their work gun(Yes I saw that) or on a rare occasion, an H2

I'd expect it to work with an HH, but I have not experience with that barrel length on auto. I had a 17" gun that ran slow with an H3 though.
