I currently have a Bushmaster xm-15 A2 cal. 5.56. I was wondering if it is possible to buy a .308 cal. upper assembly and use it on my current bushmaster lower? or are the two not compatible

No. The .308s have a longer upper and lower to accomodate the longer .308 cartridge.

Most of us have wondered the same thing at one time or another...

You will need a larger lower. I still don't know all the calibers that require the larger lower, but certainly they include everything based on the .308.

I had the same question.

Check out this link and go to #15.

Hopefully that helps a little

For a new guy that is an easy question to answer yourself.  Pick any .308 magazine fed rifle, say a M-1A or HK/FAL.  Look at the magazine.  Then compare to an AR-15 magazine.  The .308 is longer from primer to bullet. Enough said.

Depends on what .308 you had in mind.
