I have an M4gery that needs the taller front sight post to zero my BUIS. I thing the taller post looks dumb, and it gets snaged on stuff.hinking.gif I want to get an F-marked front sight base to replace it with, but I know that can be a chore. I do work as a mechanic so drilling and loosening stuck parts dosn't scare me any. Should I try or let someone else do it?
If your flash supp. isn't perm. attached, then drive out the 3 pins in the FSB, and slide it off. Worst case scenario, you get the 3 pins out, FSB won't come off, cut it off. Slide new one on, install pins.

The chances of finding two FSB's with taper pin holes in the same locations will be astronomical. There is no set measurement that manufacturer's use to place these two holes. Some will be high, some low, etc. Without the proper equipment, this will be a very difficult task.
The taller front sight posts are only forty thousandths of an inch (.040") taller. I couldn't see that .040" causing a problem with snagging, or even being a cosmetic problem myself.

Aww, crap. I have a FSB project in the near future.

The front sight post is a little past flush with the prongs on the front sight base. I had seen a FSB on Bravo Co. that wasn't drilled yet. Any idea how hard it would be to drill the holes in the right spot? .040 in an engine is HUGE! You are probably right though.

Unless you have a mill or a sturdy drill press with a good vise and some precision measuring equipment, not very.

I have/know how to use the above and also go to the next size larger taper pin. It will clean out the old taper pin while reaming a new front sight base and barrel as a newly matched pair.
Stock taper pins are 13/16" long and #2/0 size. Go to a 7/8" long (you can't easily get 13/16" long taper pins) that's either a #0 or #1 and shorten the pins as necesaary...
