I'm about to reinstall my FSB after removing it to replace the barrel nut I screwed up. This is from a factory Rock River upper, and the barrel is not parked under the FSB. So I have a few questions about how to go about this. Do I lubricate that un-parkerized space, or do I degrease it? What do I do about the inside of the FSB? Does it make any real difference? Since the FSB is held on with dowel pins instead of taper pins, I don't think it makes a difference which direction I reinstall the pins, but I do remember which direction I removed them. Is this of any concern at all? Final question: This part of the job looks almost entirely foolproof. So of course I'm suspicious that it isn't. Am I missing anything or should I just go for it? |

If you remember how you took them out, put them back in reverse as this guarantess you should be able to get them in with about the effort it took to get them out. As for the lube, if you do I wouldn't go crazy with it, I generally will oil the side that is finished just in the area where the barrel profile gets to be close to the ID of the fsb to hold down scratches. Of course this all depends on barrel profile too. |
| The barrel profile is cylindrical, so that's not an issue. It sounds like I have it all ready. I'll put some light machine oil (also known as "shredder oil") on the barrel when I position the FSB, then push the pins in in the reverse direction from when I took 'em out. Update: Job complete. It took a little wiggling to get the FSB back into the right spot and then lined up with the holes in the barrel, but that wasn't a big deal. Then the rear pin wanted to be a pain, but it saw the logic in my argument and complied with my requests. After several rounds of WHAM with my mallet, of course. All done; the barrel assembly is now once more assembled (except for tightening the flash hider, but that can wait for a bit), and when I have free time tomorrow (hopefully), I'll get at assembling the upper.
