I know this has probly been beat to death around here but I was left somewhat confused by some of the info I read on the subject.  So I'm posting the question anyway.

If I have a complete upper thats been in service for serveral years now, and I want to change it from an A4 flat top to an A2.  Can I simply buy a new upper and swap them out without having to worry about head spacing?

The headspacing is really based on the interaction between the bolt and the barrel extension.  If that is good you are fine and if you are using the same barrel you are GTG.  



Changing out the Upper receiver is not going to change that.
