Alright, I'm putting together my first AR Lower and I've got everything in except the hammer.. The J pin inside the hammer is stopping the pin from going all the way through. Am I retarded or is there some trick to this? Because it will not budge.

Tap it in with a plastic faced hammer or use a brass punch.
If it does not go, something is wrong with the hammer.
Did you try to insert the pin into the hammer alone?

ETA: put some oil in the bore of the hammer.

Will the pin go into the hammer when it is not installed in the lower?

Easier to install if you insert the end without the groove so that the pin will go through the hammer with only one groove to negotiate.
As you are tapping the pin to the final position, as it is squeezing the J spring it is also exiting the hole on the other side.
If the pin is not aligned with that hole it will feel like the pin is stuck.  But it's just hung up on the inside of the receiver.
It should only need to be lightly tapped with a plastic mallet to depress the J spring and seat.
As stated above, use a drop of oil inside the hammer pin bore.

I use the little wooden hammer that came with my grandson's block set.  He doesn't mind if I borrow it.

Thanks for the replies ya'll. It was the hammer, the J pin was not depressing for whatever reason. Got a new one from the gun shop I bought the LPK from.
