I was just looking at this article:

www.gunblast.com/Bushmaster_Varminter.htm

I noticed how low the scope was mounted on the upper reciever.  Is it more accurate to mount the scope lower like this?  And is it really practical to have it low like this while in the field such as for varmint shooting?

I personaly found it rather uncomfortable trying to get the proper eye alignment when my scope was mounted with 1 inch super high 30mm rings.  So I added the 1/2 inch riser blocks back as shown in the article.  My setup is about 1 inch higher than you see (1.5 inches in total above the receiver).  Is the scope to high?

I am using a the bushmaster varminter rifle as shown with a Leupold Vari-x III 8.5x-25x50mm long range scope.
