I recently asked a question about mid length uppers.  I got great information and I contacted the companies suggested.  Now I have to make a decision on what to buy.  What do you think is the best deal?  FWIW I have had no experience with any of the companies as I have always gone with Olympic (happily I might add).

Armalite -

Light contour barrel
1/9 twist
She didnt know the barrel steel - I'm assuming 4140 or 4150 - Chrome lined
$500.00

Rock River -

Heavy Weight barrel
4140 steel, Chrome lined available 1/9 twist or
stainless barrel 1/8 twist
$470.00 for Chrome lined 1/9
$495.00 for stainless 1/8

Sabre Defence -

Govt. Profile barrel
Chrome lined
1/9 twist
$595.00

These are my options.  Bushy doesn't offer them.  These are for complete no ban flat top uppers with bolt group and charging handle.  Carrying handle not included.  Sabre only has the A2 upper - so I think they may be out - I plan on an EOTech or AimPoint.

So who do you think I should go with?  I wanted a 1/7 twist, but no one offers it.  Rock River is the closest with their 1/8, but I dont know if I should go with a stainless over a chrome lined barrel.  It will be semi-auto only, so I doubt I will be burning it out any time soon, but still..... .
Cost is a concern, but they're all close enough that It doesn't matter too much.  The Sabre does seem like a lot though - but it really may be worth it in extra quality - however, I know little about the company or their reputation.  Armalite and Rock River have pretty much sterling reps.  I like features of both the light weight and heavy weight barrels, so I'm kind of on the fence there.  Everyone has a lead time of between 3 weeks to 60 days.

So what do y'all think?  HELP ME SPEND MY MONEY!!!

I don't see how you could go wrong with either of the RRA offerings.  Chrome lined 1/9 for $470 would be my choice.

Can't go wrong with any of them.  Armalite or Rock River would be my choice.  In fact there's a Rock River midlength upper on sale in the EE for 400 bucks right now.  I'd check there before anywhere else.

Interesting.  I talked to someone there this afternoon.  Thanks for clearing that up for me, I'll look into it.

I just put a RRA mid length upper on a Stag lower and love it.  No regrets

I just ordered a custom upper from G and R with 1/7, and LaRue FF installed.  I can't wait to get it.

I had a RRA midlength that I just sold.  I really liked it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for a midlength that didn't need a 1/7 twist.

Thanks for the reply.  Did the Rock River have a bayo lug?  I recall either RR or Armalite telling me they don't offer bayo lugs because it adversely effects accuracy.  I think it was Armalite, but I don't remember.  I should have written it down but it slipped my mind.

Am I correct in believing that you can actually use the bayo lug with a midlength?

My RRA had a bayonet lug.  I don't own a bayonet, but if you poke around, plently of other people have confirmed that one will fit just fine on a midlength.

Okay, thanks guys!  I decided to go with Rock River.  Will be quite a while before it comes in though.  30-60 days.  Oh well, something to look forward to.
