Just wanting to see how much coverage a 10" FF rail will provide for a lo-pro gas block on a 14.5"/16" middy. For my next build, I'm thinking about ditching the FSB. Thanks.

What gas system length?

11" rail, carbine gas system.

Well, that would sure help, wouldn't it?! Gas system I'm interested in is a MIDDY gas system on either a 14.5"/16" barrel. Thanks.

16" Mid Length w/ a 10" DD Lite

14.5" Mid Length w/ a 10" DD Lite

Here's a close up view. The top rifle is a 14.5" Mid Length w/ a 10" DD Lite. The bottom rifle is a 16" Mid Length w/ a 12" DD Omega X

Ok, I see that the lo-pro gas block is exposed ever so slightly with the 10" FF rail. Thanks for the pics.

10" DD over PRI gas block on 16" middy

Link Posted: 12/18/2011 9:57:10 PM EDT
That's an even better shot. Thanks. I know this'll be a stupid question, but do you think it's better to have the rail fully cover the GB?
Link Posted: 12/18/2011 10:31:37 PM EDT
I don't know about it being better in a stability/protection kinda way first-hand, but unless you are intentionally or at least very recklessly throwing your rifle around, I don't see there being any danger. Just don't touch it.

Cosmetically, I think it looks much nicer to have the gas block partially exposed, but that's just my opinion.

Ah, Stick, good to see you posting in my thread. I'm eyeing the 10" Centurion rail over the 10" DD Lite rail due to the built-in QD sockets on the Centurion. How does the Centurion stack up against the DD in terms of robustness? Probably the same, I bet.
Link Posted: 12/19/2011 10:02:54 AM EDT
i just decided on a Centurion 10".

heck, it stickman rocks it I know its as good as his pics are:)
Link Posted: 12/19/2011 10:07:39 AM EDT
Seems like it's the best way to go due to the QD points, which the DD Lite rail does not have. It also appears to be the same weight as the DD.
Link Posted: 12/19/2011 10:15:07 AM EDT
I have a centurion 12" The thing is built like an absolute tank. My one comlaint is that my bottom rail appears to be a bit "fat", had a hard time getting a gearsector handstop on it. Other than that I have nothing but the best to say about the product.

You should look at the DD Omega X too. Pricey though.

Stick: I have a DD Omega on a 16" middy, and I do admit that how it attaches to the weapon is not the most robust method; however, in comparing the Centurion to the DD Omega X, I do not see much of a difference between the two. I like the price point on the Centurion much better, tho! I am not married to any piece of gear, so your feedback on the Centurion is much appreciated. I chose the DD Omega for my first middy due to the ease of installation, FF capacity and me wanting to keep the FSB.

ETA: Specs of the barrel on the top rifle in your pic above???

Just looked that up, but DD doesn't offer a 10" and that rail sure is pricey. I wonder why it is so much? The Centurion is looking better and better.

ETA: Can one remove the bottom rail on the Centurion to clean out any debris that gets in there?

So, to install the Centurion all you gotta do is cut off the delta ring assembly and pop on the rail?

ETA: NVM. Found directions on WEVO.

Will a Samson 11" evo rail hid the gas block on a middy ?
Link Posted: 12/19/2011 9:14:01 PM EDT
Yep, pretty much. A 10" rail only leaves a small portion exposed. Look at the pics above.

What gas systems are on those rifles? Barrel lengths?

11" inch rail completely covers a middy gas system. I have the Troy 11" TRX battle rail on my weapon.

This thread is exactly what I was looking to see. I am going to build up a 16" middy LW with a now 11- 12" rail, light at 12 o'clock, DD fixed front sight directly behind it and still making up my mind on which rail.

Stickman,
No light on your duty rig?

Thanks,
Ghilly

Hey stick, what brand of barrel is that on top? and is it a skinny profile?

Great pic and rifles, btw!

STICK: Specs on those two rifles would be great! Bbl length? Gas system? Etc.

Nice rig.

Thanks. First build. PSA upper, lower, BCG, LPK, Black Hole Weaponry barrel, Magpul MOE stock, Burris PEPR scope mount, cheap scope that I will probably change to Eotech later when I decide to spend half as much money on an optic as I have in the whole gun.

Spikes Upper and Lower
Spikes Bar Rail
Lothar Walther barrel
Magpul UBR
RRA 2-stage LPK
Vortex Viper scope and rings

It will be awhile it is not with me as I just recently moved and could not take all my guns with me until I find a house I have just essential guns with me and the rest are back home in my safe. No room for my safe in my apartment and still trying to find a house.

Looks to be a centurion arms barrel. I"ve got one on mine and its an awesome bbl, as well as the rails. Their barrels are medium weight barrels.

How do you like the Centurion rail? Does it feel too wide? Or is the width a non-issue? Reason for this question is that I have a DD Omega rail which is pretty slim. What gas block is that? Thanks!
Link Posted: 1/5/2012 12:59:59 PM EDT
its ovaled so its nice & thin. the gas block is from PK firearms, It was labelled low-profile, extended. i liked how it stepped down like the Knights SR one. it also will cover up pin holes from an A frame.

the rail is LIGHT! it mounts up really easily too. I will never buy another rail except Centurion now.

I will take picts of the width/gas block for ya soon.

Here's a Noveske 14.5" Lo Pro with VIS (non-switchblock). This is the VIS 10" model.

I have the same rig, but in 9" VIS with switchblock (which has to be exposed)...and mine's KG coated dark gray with foliage green furniture.

I don't really have a preference in handguard length as long as it's at least 9" (carbine length handguards are just too short for my liking unless it's on an SBR), but I do have a Rainier RUC 14.5 with a 12.3" rail and I have to say it does look pretty badass with the longer rail.

ETA - I'm with Stick on the Centurion stuff...major chubby for their rail systems. I just need a good excuse (another upper) to get one.
