Bought this beautiful SP1 yesterday for $1050. I intend to convert it into a 607 clone, but it's such a great rifle already I am struggling with modifying it in any way.

That looks nice man, I would leave it alone if it were me.

NO! Don't do a thing to it!

Enjoy it as is. I have one, and it's my absolute favorite! This is the AR-15 in its purest form, the way it was MEANT to be.

Nice find!

I would leave it as is.

ETA: It is however ok, to add genuine perodic Colt items and build a nice kit.

Very Nice! Keep it as is and build your 607 with another receiver and parts.

leave it as is, looks nice

Leave that poor old girl alone. "Old School" AR's deserve to be left in that pristine format. If you want to Gucci up an AR or build up a retro 607, find another host. There's something special about how light and fast handling those old SP1's/M16a1's really are.

Like everybody else has said: Don't molest this one. She's too damn clean!

Congrats on the find, but please don't mess with this one.

One more vote for leaving it alone the way it is!

I would love to have one of those some day. I think they are the coolest looking type AR15. Dont do a think to it. Shoot and enjoy, go buy!

Very nice find; I'd leave it as it is; but if you feel like wanting to change something on it to make the rifle look more like an early Model 601, swap the birdcage FH with an earlier duckbill style FH.

You can find this particular FH over at Total Silence. THey specialize in making parts for XM177 rifles.

Check them out.

She's a beauty.
Just the way she is.

Take a wrench to it, part it out, build it how you want. There are a couple hundred thousand SP1's, no one will miss that one.

I also support leaving as is....but I am a big fan of the three prong hider...other than that, you have a work of art my man.
Link Posted: 3/27/2006 4:14:22 AM EST
Being how it is a slick side upper (A-nothing). I would put a three pronger on it and call it good.

Okay, show of hands; whoever wants AvengeR15 to change the Birdcage FH on his new SP1 to a "Duckbill" style FH; please raise your hand.

Add a pigsticker to it and call it done man.
Nice rifle, leave it as is, you wont regret it.
