What lower would I need for a POF .308 upper? And out of curiosity the 5.56?

An AR-15 lower for 5.56/.223 upper, and an AR-10 lower for the .308 upper.

LOL, wow, I can not believe I actually asked what brand lower the 5.56 upper went on. Sorry brain fart. And thank you n0zzle, couldn't find that on their site (may have been looking in the wrong spot).

Really?  an Ar-10?  I thought the POF took DPMS style mags.

I have a DPMS stripped lower and was thinking about a POF upper for it.  Dang it.

A POF is based on the DPMS platform. However a POF and DPMS have different pin diameters. A sleeve is needed for a POF lower to a  DPMS upper. I do not know of a way to attach a POF upper to a DPMS lower.

A POF upper will not fit an AR10 lower.  As mentioned, it will fit a DPMS lower but requires sleeves sold by CWS.

Sleeves? I assume to make the capture pins fit? How much are they?

So do I have this correct, the POF pins are smaller than the DPMS pins?

So in order to use a DPMS Lower with a POF Upper, you would have to be able to drill/bore out the pin holes on the Upper? Anybody think this is possible, or has anyone done it, or come up with another way to make it work?

Thanks,
Capt Richardson

You may also want to check out the new DPMS compatible lowers by CMMG and Iron Ridge Armory.  They are supposed to be directly compatible with having to deal with pin sleeves, etc.

The POF uses standard AR15 LPK, so the pins are smaller.  I haven't heard of anybody trying to drill the pin holes out.  I would definitely be curious how it goes if you decide to try it.

Thanks,

I have only had my hands on 1 POF .308 Upper, and at that time I was not thinking about the "pin issues" so I did not look at the ability to enlarge the holes to fit the pins on a DPMS Lower.

I own 4 DPMS .308 Lowers, so I really don't want to have to buy another dedicated POF Lower.

Of course at this point, between price and availability I am not sure that I will be buying a POF .308 Upper anytime soon!

If anyone does have a POF .308 Upper and could take a look at it in terms of enlarging the holes, please let us know what the possibilities look like.

I am also curious if there would be other issues such as the positioning and alignment of the Lower and Upper?

Thanks Again,
Capt Richardson
