I have fought, mangled, replaced so many of the cotter pins that retain the bolt in the carrier I can't count them.

I always liked the solid pins used in the early ARs   and found in original full auto AR10s.  They never need replacing and never bend, break and remove with just a bullet tip or pocket knife.

I am not talking about US mangling the cotter pins, customers force them in and fuck them up.
The solid pin eliminates that problem.  And yeah, we have to replace a lot of them.  The solid pin is also much stronger.  A minor upgrade but we like it.  If you don't don't buy one.

I have sold a number of original Colt Machineguns, Model 01's, and they had the solid pin.  Evidently the late Gene Stoner like them.

While we do not have vast experience with these pins we have a number of guns out there and all of mine, semi and full auto and there have been not problems at all, and tear down of the bolt/carrier is much simpler and we like it like that.

Further reply, yes , a solid pin was the original design.  Why and when the cotter pin I don't know, but the old solid pins appeared stronger and easier to deal with as they did not spread and become difficult to replace, leading to some guys even using hammers in an attempt to force them in.
