What was the original color of the furniture used on very early (Late 50s, early 60s)Armalite/Colt military AR-15 Rifles? Dark Green, OD Green, Brown, Black?
I remember seeing some USAF rifles with Dark green Triangle Handguards/Buttstock/ Pistol grip!
The color was flaking off like they were painted!

The original color was Brown. According to "Black Rifle". I saw a set of these recently on e-bay; they were an early type of fiberglass and had the typical swirly translucent appearance of early synthetics. Looked like crap. Some of these were overpainted Green.

Just saw a show on the history channel about the AR15 and they showed the first one by armalite. It was dark greyish-black, you could almost see the synthetic fibers
