Just like to say that this is the most informative forum ive ever had the pleasure of being a part of. And with no further ado my question(s). So far from what ive been able to gather in my searches around the board and internet is that there are 4 types of front hand guards: Rifle, Midlength, Carbine(9") and M4(7"). The part I'm fuzzy about is the CAR and M4 guards, from my understanding the M4 are the shortest and the CAR is a couple inches longer followed by the Mids and rifle. Correct? The thing thats confusing me is that I see barrels in the rifle, mid, and M4 gas tube configuration but not the Carbine. Is the Carbine and Midlenght the same size or what? Well thats it for now....many more questions to follow i imagine. Thanks Matt |

Matt- Here is a visual representation of the various gas system lengths. Note where the step is just in front of the fat section of the barrels. This is where the handguard cap and front sight would rest. Mongo's numbers are spot on. |
