Decided to build myself an AR.   Been doing quite a bit of research but have a couple questions as I cannot find the info.

Here's what I have so far

JD stripped lower (live in SD, so why not support local business on the part I have to pay tax on anyway)
PSA Gen2 MOE LPK FDE (on its way)

What I'm planning.

PSA Dissapator upper w/black MOE guard
VLtor EMod FDE stock (might do Magpul CTR to save some $$$$)

My QUESTION

Aside from the Mil Spec vs Commercial aspect, what is the difference between Buffer Tubes????  I understand there are Rifle length and Carbine length and for the upper I'm planning I need a Carbine length, with buffer appropriate for Mid Length gas tube.  So aside from these specs, are there any differences in Buffer tubes?  Metal, plastic?  Number of adjustment holes? Or is it just like lowers and @ holes?  (everyone has one)

Rifle length is for fixed stocks, like the a2 has. It doesn't allow for a collapsible stock to be installed. Carbine tubes on the other hand don't allow for fixed stocks. As for civilian vs military size tubes...some will say otherwise but I don't think it really matters much. One thing i have noticed about civilian tubes is that in my experience some can be a bit longer than mil spec. I kind of like this personally. Just be sure to match your stock to whatever tube you pick or vice versa.
Another consideration is 6 vs 4 position carbine tubes. Most prefer 6 as it allows you to set the stock at more lengths but either will work.
