| Looking to add a new buffer to my AR, just thought I'd ask what ya'lls option is on what to use. What have ya'll used that has helped/worked for ya'll. It will be going in a rifle with a midlength gas setup if that matters. Let me know, any help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Sorry....Collapsable stock (6 position commercial to be exact). Well then, I can tell you that anything from a standard carbine buffer to a heavy 9mm should work just fine. The difference is how the rifle will feel to you as you shoot it with different buffers. To me heavier buffers seem to make the feel of the rifle a lot smoother. It aids in quicker follow up shots and felt recoil. They slow the speed of the carrier as it moves back so it also helps reduce the amount of stress on the bolt while firing. I just ordered a 9mm buffer for my other mid-length. I have another mid length with a rifle buffer(weighs about the same as a 9mm buffer) and I found that rifle to be my favorite shooters. I already have a 9mm buffer in my 16" carbine. IMHO it's the only buffer you SHOULD have in that setup(unless it's full auto). |

Is buffer selection pretty much trial and error? I see alot of mixed opinions on which to run. Most of the ammo I shoot is 55gr. Would a plain H buffer suffice or should I got a bit heavier? For most rifles it shouldn't be trial and error. Any AR with a 14.5" barrel or longer with any type gas system(other than a 20" cut down to 16") SHOULD work with any weight buffer with any decent ammo. For the most part it is personal preference. |
