Well I have been wanting to get and AR-15 for some time and found one I could aford at the last gun show here in town. I purchased a DPMS Lite 16" (M4 copy). I know there are much better ARs out there but this was one I could afford now.
My question: Is it possible to change the Break that is on this rifle?
I would like something that isnt so loud when behind or beside the rifle. I was looking at something like the "LEVANG" LINEAR COMPENSATOR.

Any help would be appreciated. Im not sure it the break that came with this rifle is removable. The break that is currently on this riffle is this one:

Thanks

Go to the "industry" boards on this site and scroll down to the forum for "Kurt's Kustom Firearms"  KKF makes the best brakes out there, including one that is similar to the Levang brake but it has slots milled in the outside so that it looks like a pre-ban flash hider.

I am on a major budget and really just looking for something I can change out. Is the break on my gun something that is removable? and is that something I can remove?

Being a postban rifle, your brake had to be permanently pinned and/or welded on.While it's possible to remove it on your own with the right tools, it's probably better left to a gunsmith to do it w/o messing up the barrel.I don't think Kurt charges that much for the new brake and removal and he does excellent work.Your other choice might be to buy a Cavalry Arms comp and find a local smith to install it.

Nothing wrong with a DPMS ,
I was once issued a 1911 made by the Singer
Sewing Machine Co. , it still went Bang![:D]

Definitely go with a brake from Kurt !

If you're on a budget I say forget the brake and buy a few USGI 30 rounders... That is a nice rifle, definately nothing to be ashamed of :)

I'd say what you have is fine.

Use the budget money to buy good earplugs and more ammo!!! [:D]

Thanks for the advice. I might try KKF when I have the cash to spend on it. I dont mind using earplugs when I go the range...but shoting on the ranch is more fun without them. Right now I would rather have ammo :)

BTW: here is the rifle as it stands after my scope addition and colt 30 round clip

Duckie,

Who makes that scope mount ?  Where did you buy it ?  Is the scope mount a one-piece ?  I WANT ONE !!!! [bounce]

Duckie, treat you and that new AR right. Send it off to Kurt at KKF... have him reprofile the barrel, cut it back and add an A3 TacBrake.  You won't believe how well an AR handles in a LW configuration... Kurt's work is first rate and very reasonable in price...

G35
Visit http://www.crankyfarmer.com/
It is the AR-3 Ring Mount and he sells it for $19.00. I really like it. It fits well on my A1 upper and still allows use of the Peep sights.

DarkStar
I plan on sending the upper off to KKF sometime when I can part with the rifle and I have the cash. Looks like he did you a great job.

Duckie its called a BRAKE as in STOP as in STOP RECOIL.

If you have a BREAK on your rifle it needs to be repaired.

You will be corrected on this site everytime you say Break or Clip.

Welcome aboard and go to Kurt...
