Has anyone ever shot this ammo? Is it decent or not worth the gamble?

It's not a horrible price. Maybe try a box or two if you're an ammo club member?  I am curious why they didn't paint the tip green. Saving on paint?

Ya, I’m going to give it a shot. I’m a member, so I just got 200rds for $85.67 shipped, works out to just shy of 43 cents per round. It claims to be made to NATO spec. Hopefully it will make decent training ammo.

Edit to add: same brand of 9mm on TargetSports is about 22 cents per round for members. I may have to get some, perhaps even a case. A case of 9mm for $220 isn’t terrible these days.

Basic info in the "About Us".
Says the manufacturer started in 1952. Maybe that and when they joined Ruag Group in 2009 can tell us who it is?

It's sketchy how out of their way they go to not say what country it's made in. All RUAG companies state the country of manufacture on the box. Is this a renamed company?

Also, RUAG sold off it's munitions side to Beretta a few months ago

Cant attach a picture, but I downloaded a PDF of theirs and RUAG Ammotec has 5 production sites.

One is in Hungary.
I would guess their bargin basement ammo would be from there. Looks like MFS brand made used to be made at that address. (Only MFS I remember was zinc coated steel cased)
I would guess MFS was bought by Ruag.

Ruag ammotec AG headquarters. 3602 Thun Switzerland
Ruag ammotec Germany. 90765 Furth Germany
Ruag ammotec USA. 5402 E Diana St Tampa FL
Ruag Hungarian Ammotec. 3332 Sirok, Hungary
Norma Precision AB. 67040 Amotfors Sweden

Brands....
Norma
Geco
Ruag Swiss P
RWS
Rotweil (shotshells)

Heres the link to download the PDF...

I believe that Radway Green ss109 projectiles are not painted green.  It could be similar for other countries.

Quite a few manufacturers don't use green paint on their SS109/M855

I ordered some. Tried looking on YouTube for a shooting review but couldn't find any. Hope it's decent. Targetsport had a memorial day discount on their annual membership today $20 off if your a veteran.

I absolutely will. Bear in mind though, I’m not a benchrest shooter so this likely won’t be fired through a longer barreled AR with magnified optic, so my AAR will be more about reliability (and how dirty it is) vs being a true accuracy test. I’ll shoot a couple rested groups, but most likely they’ll be through an 11.5 Colt Commando or a 14.5 BCM, both of which are topped with Aimpoints.

Standard issue Italian ammo is not painted.
No need for it since the only 1/12 rifle was the first AR70 that saw limited use and has been entirely replaced by the 70/90 and the ARX

It's fair to say that *most* SS109 is not painted. The green tip was a US requirement to differentiate M-855 from M-193. US, Israeli, and S. Korean M-855 have green tips. Some others will paint the tip any color the customer wants, such as the black tipped SS109 made by IGMAN years ago.

It says in that link it's made in Hungary

I’ll be testing this ammo tomorrow in a couple rifles. No chronograph and no magnified optics. I’ll be shooting primarily through an 11.5 barrel SBR and a 14.5 barrel M4 clone. Both rifles have Aimpoints. Depending on time, and how many other guns I’m shooting, I’d like to shoot about 200 rounds or more of this New Republic 5.56.

100 rounds this morning through a 14.5 BCM with an Aimpoint PRO. I have no complaints with this ammo, it ran without issue. While zeroing at 50 yards, it was shooting about 2 inch groups, which I honestly think is pretty good for M855 with a red dot. I wouldn’t be surprised if with a scope and a better shooter it could do better.

@AZgunner

Could you break down a round? Wondering if the primer and bullet are sealed.

I’ve never done it before, but I could probably give it a shot.

Edit: Anyone have a recommended tutorial? I don’t have any specialized reloading equipment, but if I can do this and provide some usable data, I’m down to give it a try.

Just grabbed 1000 rounds of this stuff.

Case reads produced by MFS Defense Zrt, Hungary. (Aka Beretta)

Clean brass, well packaged, from first glance looks like decent stuff. Going to run this through a 20" most likely this weekend after terrible experience with SDI M855 - will update.
