I own 1 AR
10,000 rounds of 5.56
100 30 rd magazines

I was thinking of purchasing a semi-auto in .308(M1,FAL,AR10)......something that I will put a scope on ,and effectively hit targets at 800or so yards out.

My question is......Knowing that this could be your last purchase for a semi-auto rifle, would you purchase a second AR because of the investment that you already have,
or do you think it would be worth investing in a semi-auto in .308 to have the advantages of having .308 as a second calibur.

Get yourself an AR in caliber .308, magazines and ammo to go with it and don't look back.  Then you'll have the best of both worlds.

You're pretty well invested in AR support already. If it was me, I would add a second AR. 2 is 1.... and all that.

+1 for another AR-15

If something happens to your AR-15, those mags and all of that 5.56 ammo will be useless when your backup rifle is a .308

Yup. I would get another AR.

I would go with an M1A. Very fine weapon. You will have the long range "punch" that the 5.56 cannot provide. I do like 7.62 AR's, but I would rather have the M1A.

It might be wrong to say on this particular board...but if I was to buy a 308 caliber rifle to hit targets at 800yds or better I would probably go with a bolt gun, if you have your heart set on a semi I would probably go with the Springfield M1A.
