[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Need Help

I'm trying to finish my first AR-15. Its not a complete do it yourselfer but defenitely a frankenstein rifle. I need to take the handgaurds off of the rifle so that I can replace them with M4 handgaurds. Every online guide that I have looked at describes how to install a free float forearm but does not give details on how to remove the originals. I know this is probably a very simple thing but like I said this is my first. Thanks.

If its a car handgaurd you shold just have to pull back on the ring just behind the gaurd and separate the two halves.
