Hey everyone! I wanted your opinions on my first AR-15 build. I've stumbled across some information that has me worried.
Here is what I've ordered so far (trying to do it right the first time). Lower: http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Spike_s_Tactical_Lower_Multi_Forged_Bullet_p/sp-stls012.htm LBK: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/moe-lower-build-kit.html I've order a nice set of brass punches, pin holders, hammer, and vise block as well. My concern is with the LBK. I thought I had done my research correctly, but I've came across some information that has me worried. It's to my understanding that LBK I ordered is coming with a 6061 tube instead of a 7075 tube. Which is not true "mil-spec". My question is: Did I get a good deal on this kit (even if I decide to order a true mil-spec tube)? I'm only using this rifle for home defense / every now and then shooting at the range. |
| All good. Because the tube doesn't really handle much for what I consider a "shock" load (it takes the load rather gradually with the spring) it doesn't really need the strength of the 7075. The 6061 allows it to be welded, something 7075 does not. Just makes the processing easier, and therefor less expensive. If you can wear it out you need far more than a basic stick anyway. Shoot, enjoy, don't sweat it. |
