Been a minute but I blew the dust off the mk18. Sorry about the muzzle device but me and surefire cans don’t play well.

I just got a notification that the Colt ambi safety is back in stock at Arms Unlimited.  I *think* they're non-hot dog, at least they appear to be in the pic.  Hopefully what I receive is non-hot dog.

Don’t they end up pulling some sort of switcharoo with these?  Like they end up being Schmid tool safetys?

I feel like this has been an issue talked about in the Colt industry subforum.

@TGWLDR

You remember this?

Doesn’t Schmid make them anyway?  I know the newer ones have the cage code on them but they’re probably made by Schmid too, right?

Yeah, they got all fuckey and sent out generic Schmid ambis and argued with customers that these were the "new Colt design ".

Eta: FWIW, the last 2 batches of these that AU offered were legit. Maybe they wised up some?

If you receive what is in the picture, no, but we have been down this road with that same colt part number(s) in 2021, 2020, 2019, and earlier

https://www.ar15.com/forums/Industry/Ambi-selectors-at-AU-here-we-go-again-/29-299728/

Colt F/A safeties/selectors is the way most go, and most file down the center section to turn it into a S/A safety

If you already bought, lets see what shows up. I've returned things to AU with no issues in the past. Lets hope they get those $50 colt lower parts kits in stock soon

They also have that cut down Schmid ambi-safety listed separately now, so hopefully that's an indication that they've learned the difference

Having 2 surefire cans blow themselves apart from baffle erosion just didn’t sit well with me and having to pay their $600 fee to repair ain’t it. Not using a flash hider would probably help baffle life but so far from what I’ve seen, sico and dead air warranty and customer service don’t sound to bad compared to that but we shall see.

Do miss the surefire mount though.

You must not have heard about recent dead air customer service and quality….

You must do a lot of shooting, and I raise my glass to you for shooting that much.   Highly doubt any dead air can could compete with a SureFire though.

If you have the money to shoot that much ammo and wear out a can you probably have the money to replace the baffles. . .

They did royally fuck up the sierra and new keymo mounts, and them getting their baffle material from Ukraine areas definitely isn’t helping

Man, that finish is rough. I remember the ones from 2018 were smooth and the numbers were crisp. I'll still get one though.

Edit-I'll get a pic of one of my older ones to compare.

Here is how they used to look:

Surplus.  Already had surplus everything else (Savannah RIS II, barrel, BCG, 4 prong, front sight, and SU230) so figured a surplus CQBR receiver would be icing on the cake for the build.

Pot calling the kettle black? I think you've got me beat. Lol.
I just wanted to point out how "aggressive" the finish is nowadays. Just looks sloppy. I'd still get one as I said.

It looks like they just changed the finishing process on the safeties. The newer ones look coated.
