Hi all, I've got about 40 30rd USGI mags that I would like to upgrade the springs on. Based on my research I've come down to four option 1.) USGI SS (cheapest option) 2.) Chrome Silicon 3.) Wolff Extra Power Springs 4.)IMSI (fairly expensive) If you were doing your mags over again which option would you choose? I plan to store most of these for a rainy SHTF day in the future. Thanks in advance -Chris |
Agreed. Efficient and economical. What more could you ask for? ETA: I was on the CS bandwagon for a while. I use them in my range mags that get heavy usage... but my SHTF mags that are sealed in ammo cans have CProducts SS springs and magpul followers. Here's my suggestion for ya: CProducts rebuild kits... select CS or SS spring Magpul follower color and new floor plate. CPROD rebuild kits link |

I've done so much experimenting it's pitiful, not a lot of difference as all are peerforming. But, there is still a best. My rating 1. CMMG double coiled springs. 2. Red Springs from the Colt Outfit in Phoenix. 3. Wolfe springs. 4. Any SS springs. 5. Any C S springs, great for everyday use. |
SS USGI springs. I've wore out a few mags over the years. But IME the feed lips, floor plate tabs & welds give out before the springs. If i ever wear out a mag spring i have plenty of lightly used spares. Another member here "upgraded" all his USGI mags to SAW's red springs. I grabbed about 60 lightly used GI springs from him for free. |
