Well 6H05T, you inspired me to go do some swapping around, these builds are just never done.  Was able to get the RIS on and RAS off.  Now able to use the proper leaf sight mounting screw instead of the one I had to make for the RAS since the spring steel was in the way.  Unemployment sucks at times, but definitely nice for tidying up the toys!  Now just waiting for the mailman for 16A4 parts to arrive...

Cloning done right, building Americas rifle

Reading your article earlier this year was the biggest motivation i had to take the plunge into the cloning world that i had wanted to for a long time. My Colt m4a1 Block II clone is nearly done and up and running(having the eotech hood coated and the su231a info lasered, and a tan sf scout with a km2 head on the way), the Colt M4 Carbine block 1 build is coming along nicely and a super correct late mk12 mod 0 is well underway too. Thanks for being a total bad ass and for the inspiration

Here's the gov roll stamped m4a1 in its 4 pronged glory :D

Picked up this manual for the M68 sight.

Attachment Attached File

Has lots of good info on the CompM2 (or PRO).  I picked up a set of the rubber bikini style lens covers on eBay and also bought a double battery adapter with strap from ADCO.  Unfortunately the battery housing is not identical to what’s in the manual but it’s all I could find.  I also tethered the sight and light with paracord.

Attachment Attached File

I also found some 5/8” round foam that works perfectly for filling the tubes on the SOPMOD stock so the batteries don’t slide around and make noise.  Got the foam at ACE Hardware.  I put the batteries in first then the foam piece then the cap.  When you remove the cap you can shake the tube and the batteries will push the foam right out.  Maybe this is well known, I didn’t know.

Never used that foam, but we used soft foam ear plugs instead.  Same concept however.

Thanks for the update (reminds me of the 16" Colt SOCOM barrels lacking the flats)! While on the topic of 203's... If anyone needs an old style KAC 203 mount on a budget, there is a gent on GB that sells them for $30, however they're missing the indexing plate, screws and release lock wire.  I had some LMT screws and an indexing plate on hand, then spun my own wire with .055 (1.4mm) music wire.  Works great and is very similar to original pictures I found.  Venture Surplus is also the best place I've found new in bag LMT new style mounts.

One day I'll find a barrel.....

We had "Gemtech" 556 suppressors as part of "TPE" in Iraq, 2008-09. Can't remember the model, just that it used a standard A2 FH.

But don't use the Knights suppressor if the FH is mounted like this (or so I've been told)

Supposidly it increases your chances of baffle strikes using the spacer.

But who did you hear this from? Adco specifically states the spacer is ground concentric. Why would being contretic even matter if it's not intended for a suppressor?

As long as the flats are surface ground true it's a non issue. ADCO's spacer is gtg.
I forgot that ADCO addressed this a few months ago;

There are many reasons you can have a baffle strike. There is no guarantee with any barrel/mount/suppressor.
That said, if there is a strike it will NOT be caused by using a KAC spacer.

Sounds like it should be good to go! Sorry for the confusion gents.

I've got a question for the experts, I have 2 different QRP mounts for the M68 (CompM2) sight.  One looks just like what is in the military manual for the sight and mount and has a shallow groove milled into the upper rear portion.  I bought this as a military surplus mount in new condition.  The other one does not have this shallow groove but is identical, including all other machining, in every other way to the first mount including the knob and other pieces.  It came in a proper Aimpoint box and bag and was also advertised as military surplus.  The finish is slightly darker on the second one.  Was there 2 variations on this mount?  The un-grooved second mount does not appear to be some knock-off Chinese junk and fits perfect on the rifle and the sight and is dimensionally correct as far as I can tell.  I was using it till I discovered the difference after buying the manual so I found a new un-issued QRP mount and installed it but it fits and works the same.

Anybody know the story on these differences?  @Combat_Diver

The first QRP mount with shallow milled groove which matches most photos of the QRP mount:

Second QRP without the shallow milled groove:
