Which MSE? Where are you finding it?
If you want a magnified optic that can double as a red dot and extend out to 4x, the Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x20 mm would be a good choice. Only weighs 11.5 ounces, which for a 30mm main tube scope is very light.
It has very good, clear, high quality glass, close to VX-3 level, has true milrad turrets with accurate repeatable .1 mil gradations, a great SPR reticle for both close work and milrad subtensions for longer range. The Firedot reticle system is very useful. It has plenty of intensity adjustment range. It is motion activated, meaning that it automatically comes on when you pick up the rifle and shuts off if the rifle is motionless for 5 full minutes. It can be shut off completely for transport. This greatly extends battery life. I can't say how long. That depends on use. The 3-9x40mm Patrol I have is about 2 1/2 years old now and still going on the original battery. I'll probably take it out and test it, but may just replace the battery every couple years, no matter what.
