There is a massive negative effect: The magazines aren't fully loaded! Assuming USGI magazines, load 'em and leave 'em that way until you need 'em. Only thing you get with underloaded magazines, and this includes the 18/20 and 28/30 nonsense, is less ammo in the gun. -- Chuck |

I had a fully loaded mag bust a feed lip at Blackwater last week. The instructors say that loading more than 28 rounds in the mags causes damage to the feed lips, and from my experience I would say they are right. I know I only loaded 30 rounds because I was using stripper clips. I had just bought the mag from CMMG, and the lips were in perfect shape... Anyone else encounter this? |

Keep em' fully loaded. After firing 10s of thousands of rounds with full loaded mags I have never seen this with USGI mags in 20 years. Did encounter one USGI and one Thermold mag with broken feed lips but the cause was dropping a fully loaded mag onto the feed lips on concrete. De Oppresso Liber |
