I have the opportunity to pick up a Leaupold Vari X II Tactical in 3-9x40 w/ mil dot from a friend for a decent price. I was wondering what everyones opinion was of this scope? The only use it would see is on a range shooting anywhere from 1-500 yards and thats about it. Is it good for this intended use? If I do decide to buy it, I'm not sure if I'll mount it on my Bushy or on my USMC DMR clone so if anybody has them, can I see some pics?

So long as you realise its not going to be the best low light performer its an excellent scope.

I LOVE mine, but DevL is exactly right. It's not intended to be a low-light optic.

I worked around that in a half-assed way by installing a Surefire forend, and use it to dispatch skunks raiding my wife's tomato garden at night. It has served very well in that capacity.

It has a beautiful bright reticle, is built like a tank, and is extremely forgiving in terms of eye relief. Overall I'm very happy with mine and would gladly buy another if I needed to replace this one.

Good luck with yours. It will be a great addition to either of your rifles.

EDIT: It's pretty slick on my M4 carbine as well.
