| Back in the early 90s, I had a Bushmaster HBAR that I started really missing as of late. Didn't miss the weight; just the way it shot. Awhile back, a guy on a local forum was selling a new Mega upper and lower stripped set. I picked them up after hearing how good Mega stuff was, figuring I'd build something with them eventually. I decided to build a "sort of" A4. Not really trying to clone anything, but an A4 is what I ended up with. Besides the receivers, I used a Windham Weaponry 20" Gov't Profile barrel and the accompanying A2 handguards, a Colt BCG, White Oak Armory LPK, LaRue MBT trigger, Magpul OEM pistol grip, and an old Bushmaster stock that I had off another rifle from the 90s. As others have said, the Mega receivers are NICE! Noticeably better than anything else I have ever used. The upper and lower are a tight fit, but you can still push the pins out with your finger. The lower had a tensioning adjustment pin that you could put in it, but I didn't even install it. Perfect as is! I can't say enough good things about Mega. I am starting out with this thing with a Carry Handle, since that is mostly what I have used over the years. Except for one RDS, I have never used a scope on an AR before. I did buy a Weaver V7 and an ADM mount to go on this one at some point. Might try and free-float it at some point, or I may leave as is. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet. Another first for me is a two-stage trigger on an AR. On my carbines, I have always installed an ALG ACT or a BCM PNT trigger. The LaRue feels really strange. I have owned a bunch of Mauser-type bolt actions with two stage triggers, so I am familiar with them; just not on an AR. Can't wait to shoot the thing, though! |
