Just took my latest AR build out for a spin today.  WOW is all I can say.  This is the second AR I have buillt from a Model-1 Sales kit and both shoot great.  #1 was about three years ago and was a stock 20" barrel A-2 on a Bushmaster lower.  This time I used a Rock River lower and put a Model-1 16" CAR kit with a "fake" collapsible stock on.

Both kits seemed to have quite a bit of anodizing and required a little buffing to get pins to fit properly.  But other than that, they went together just fine.  I highly recommend getting the pivot pin installation tool sold by Brownells.  It saves lots of aggrevation with installing the spring and detent pin.  With the tool, entire lower went together in less than an hour, but with bruised thumbs from installing the hammer.  Model-1 Sales springs are tight!  Parts finish on the kit 3 years ago appeared to be a little better than the most recent (not that it was bad, just not quite as finished looking), but I can't really complain since they have not gone up in price in all that time.  Total invested was $139 (tax inc) for the receiver at a recent gun show and $418 (shipping inc) for the rest of the kit.  $557 for a great shooting CAR-15 on a forged receiver is tough to beat.

At the range, the first group from the new CAR was less than an inch (on the military 25 meter zero target), low and to the right.  Took two clicks left and adjusted point of aim to center of target vice 6-o'clock and the next 10 rounds were all inside the circle of the 300 meter reduced size zero target.  I was impressed.  Overall, I have been very happy with Model-1 kits, but think that I may have to try a J&T the next time I build.  Would like to post photos, but I keep buying guns and ammo so I can't afford a digital camera.

Very coooool
I am now in wait mode. Have the stripped lower. Waiting for the kit from DPMS. Ordered one week ago. Feels like a year. Geeze-will it ever get here?
I know what you mean about the digital cam. It would be nice to post pics but I would also rather spend the dough on guns. My wife has an older digital so I can use that. Doen't produc the super duper crisp image of lettering I see on the boards but good enough.
Have some doubts about building my own. All these reports make me think I am doing the right thing.
I am glad you like you new toy.

Yep, you are doing the right thing by building your own.  Not only do you save a LOT of money, but you get two very valuable things---you learn a lot more about how your rifle works, and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and doing those little things that make it yours.

As for the wait, that was another thing that was really good about Model-1.  I ordered on a Monday and the kit was delivered on Friday.

Good luck
