What is the difference between the RIS and the RAS? Is it only for the different barrels?

Looking into buying one for my M4.

From what I've heard, the Military have already received 100,000+ Knight's handguards and Knight's was just awarded a contract for roughly 100,000 more. That's a buttload of handguards....

Thanks Kevin. I guess I was confused by the wording  in Sableco.net's ad stating the M5 is for 20" heavy barrels. Thought this was odd.
