Hi, i'm new here, obviously, and i just recently bought or well my brother just recently bought a reciever of a SLW-15 or something like that. I was wondering if that's the same as having an AR-15 type reciever and if it's possible to build it to an M-16 or look like ggllggll's tactical

Building it into a M16 is a felony, as a M16 is fullauto.  Regarding what you can build in your wretched state, you should try  CA AR15.com Forum.

You are living is a highly restrictive state, those people that live there with you will be able to help you the most.  I feel bad for you guys...

Oh, didn't know all M-16's are full auto, stupid me.

Then for the CA guys is it possible to make it into the short stubby tactial ones like ggllgll's? or would that be a felony as well.

Thank you and i will check that site

Only a very select few private individuals can possess machine guns (full-auto, select fire) in this state.  The last count I heard was 52 individuals.

Essentially, all semi-automatic AR15's with removable magazines, regardless of the manufacturer, are regarded as Assault Weapons in this state.  Those that currently exist in CA had to have been registered with the DOJ either back in 1989 (Roberti & Roos) or 2000 (SB 23) to be legally possessed today.  The only current exceptions are fixed or no-magazine lower receivers such as the FAB 10, DPMS, etc.

It's important that you and your brother go to the CA DOJ website and get familiar with the current CA laws before you possess or assemble an illegal weapon inside the state.  These are felony offenses.

Go here.....ag.ca.gov/firearms/.  There is lots of depressing information on this site.  This is not a fun place to live if you have an interest in firearms.

Rifles with barrels less than 16" are considered short-barrel rifles (SBR's), and are subject to special paperwork from the BATF to own.
