I installed it in yet another gun, this time with an ARC-Fire instead of Cornfire. This time I got several 3 round bursts, then a 2 round burst with a dead trigger/live round, and then it was 1 shot with a dead trigger/live round. I've done the "flick" polishing method some, I guess I'll do it a bunch more. The first few bursts, I was incredibly happy. I think this will make for a tremendously fun gun once the kinks are worked out. |

| Tried it in a fourth gun, again with an ARC-Fire. It worked in semi, then I flipped over to burst and got a perfect 3 round burst, then a dead trigger on a live round, dimpled primer. It doesn't seem to be failing the function test in their install video, and I've "flicked" the hammer a bunch of times. I suppose I can start filing or tweaking the secondary disconnector. I'd sure like to have a backup disconnector in hand before I start tweaking mine. |

This time it behaved just like the video showed, with a slight catching that I rounded off by flicking the hammer about a hundred times. If this setup doesn't work, I'm going to stone all of the edges of both disconnectors (not the critical dimensions) in order to eliminate any catching happening there. There's certainly some burrs around the edge. I'm not in manufacturing, I'm not sure what exactly you would call it. It's not quite flashing, like from the edges of a forge die, but that general idea. |

CARL aside, What is the difference between the arcfire, marc, hoffman, atrius, cornfire, etc... Which are FRTs and which are Super safeties, and which design is best? Also, are most the same design and just different companies making them? ............ I'm not up on the latest updates in this area so while I've heard of the super safety craze, I was under the impression that FRT was a different design and I remember RareBreed coming out with one years back. ....... Also, is it the FRT or SS where the safety axis has the long arm in the center? |

Generally, the "super safety" refers to a forced reset selector which uses a lever, actuated by the bolt carrier group, in order to turn a cam which forces the trigger to reset. The Hoffman is the classic, original design of this, which uses a push button safety with options for safe mode, forced reset mode, and standard semi auto mode. The ARC-Fire, Cornfire MARC, and Atrius all use a switch, like a standard AR safety, but the basic technology is similar to the Hoffman. It's a lever, actuated by the BCG, to turn a cam. The Rare Breed FRT-15L3 and Partisan Disruptor are very similar to each other, they're cassette style drop in FRT triggers. The Arizona Regulator, BS Squirts, and a couple other modules are drop in devices that sort of fit in the back of your AR receivers. Most of the FRTs on the market require an H2 or H3 buffer with sliding tungsten weights, in order to eliminate carrier bounce, which disables your trigger after a short burst of rounds. In my opinion, the AS Designs ARC-Fire, with a Geissele trigger, is the best FRT on the market. It has a Geissele quality trigger pull in semi auto (and in FRT mode) which I prize greatly, and its lever is a lot thicker and theoretically more robust than the thinner Atrius and Cornfire MARC levers. It's 250 bucks, plus the cost of a Geissele trigger, which requires a modest modification at the tail of the trigger shoe, and you need a stamped steel lever blocker. About 500 bucks all in, if you buy the parts. If you want to get into the FRT game, I strongly recommend you start with a Hoffman Super Safety. You can get the whole setup for under 150 bucks, and learn how the tech works, before exploring more advanced options. |

I think I need the smallest amount of additional material taken off and smoothed. |

It shows exactly where to focus upon. I used a small jewelers flat file.... maybe 5 strokes and then reassembled. After that, it worked perfectly for me. |

Damn website was so slow I ordered two of them and a two round burst. I cleared them from my cart but somehow they remained… Anyway I guess I’ll sell one Carl and maybe keep the 2 rd mechanism. I don’t really see a need for 2 carls, unless I have one 2 rd and one 3 rd…. Hmm |

I received my second CARL today, and installed it in my M16A4 clone. The first intsall I did with a USGI trigger shoe didn't pass function tests, it felt like there was binding somewhere, and the third round did not reset it, though the cam was rotating. I swapped in a different shoe, and now it passes dry fire tests, and feels freer and looser. I shall live fire test tomorrow. Y'all may recall that I had my first CARL in this gun, and kept getting light primer strikes before they sent me new disconnectors.  " />
