My second CARL is not functioning properly in the A4 clone, and again it was too cold and windy to stand around diagnosing. I'm shelving these until spring. This time I fired 2 rounds in semi auto mode, then switched over to burst, and fired 2 rounds (presumably) to the reset. I pulled the trigger again, and got 2 rounds, then a dead trigger on a live round. Maybe I need to bump up the weight in the rifle length buffer, I'm not sure. That rifle length gas system with no can makes for an amazingly long cyclic time. |

I'm taking mine out tomorrow for the first time. 16" carbine, with multiple buffer weights in the range bag. |

Took Carl to the desert today for a test run. No issue in Semi. Burst mode, I get 3rds, then the trigger won't pull. The disconnector is getting stuck on that cam reset. Open the upper and the disconnector is sticking. Just tapping the hammer, it comes off the cam, close the upper, 3rds, dead. Wash, rinse, repeat. I'll probably try and smooth out that spot on the cam before I take any material off the disconnector. |

| I was told after asking specifically if this would work with a $eissle trigger That it would. So I bought one and it will NOT work with a G trigger, The disconnector will not fit in the trigger. Looks like it could be ground down to fit but more work than I'm willing to do. Not giving up my 2lb 2 stage trigger. |

At the range in Dickinson, FRTs were a thing today. But, the CARL was not expected. Some stranger spit a consistent 3 rounds per pull across multiple mags. Had to be a CARL. I was jealous. I was confirming my x39 ARs. I could appreciate a 3 rd limiter on'm. 4th+ rounds were bad shots. Color me mildly interested and impressed. |

But why? I always thought the military going to burst was a solution to poor training to begin with. As in "We just can't keep Joe from blasting all his ammo donwrange, so we'll create a mechanical device that will only let him shoot bursts." No thanks, but to each his own. |

If I had an A2 20” other than my early 90s Colt with the stupid sear block I might consider a 3 round burst for nostalgic reasons but otherwise, not interested. |

Hopefully some of you smart people can help me figure this out. 80% lower. Works 100% with all "mil-spec" FCG. Installing Cornfed MARC and CARL at the same time. Op check MARC seems to work fine with standard safety and hammer. Put in CARL components, no joy. Hammer will lock back on disconnect, let go of trigger I can see the disconnect release the hammer. Trigger is now dead. Hammer back, minor trigger movement. I can reengage the disconnects. Pulled the CARL disconnects (2 parts and spring), reinstalled original disconnect with the CARL hammer. Functions normally. This is all bench test with no upper. Any ideas? |

All right boys, I had a 2 hour range/workshop session this afternoon. A lot of good, some not so good. Both of these use Cornfire MARCs, both use GI type trigger shoes. My first CARL: it had both disconnectors replaced by Stuff and Things, which improved the function slightly, but I was still consistently having issues with it occasionally failing to complete a burst. That seems to have been entirely cured, by taking a benchtop wire wheel to the sharp edges left on the disconnectors by the stamping process. It now seems to function perfectly, at least through 3x30 magazines. I was using a suppressed 14.5 upper today, out of courtesy to my neighbors, but the ultimate goal is to have this be an A2 carbine. Anyway. The second CARL is in an M16A4 clone. No joy with this one. Constant light strikes on the first round. I ran out of ammo, but my next step is to swap BCGs, and then the step after that is to install a 7.62x39 XL firing pin. If it's still not working after that, I think I'll reach out to Stuff and Things. |

Second thing, try polishing the sharp edges of the disconnectors. |

My two worked out of the box 🤷♂️. It’s hit and miss on all these FRT things. My arcs were out of spec but now after they replaced it’s my favorite frt in combo with a G$. The Carl is in two totally different platforms. One is a HB clone in 300 with an Atrius and an homemade function flatbow and the other is a side charging 556 beast with a Hoffman. Both haven’t had a hiccup. Granted I’ve only shot about 4 mags through each just to ensure proper function. That’s the problem with having so many frts you shoot them just enough to ensure they work and then move on to the next

I dont find anything on their website about troubleshooting so apologies if it's there. would that mean pull hammer back onto disconnect, then disassemble (pull hammer pin, pull hammer part way out) so I can put hammer forward, reassemble and repeat 100x ? EDIT: now on their videos page I see "function fix" I see if that helps. thanks |

I installed it with an Arc Fire v1 and the burst function seems to work in dry fire, but the trigger occasionally won't reset in semi and never resets in burst. Will try to troubleshoot later. |

It's resetting much more reliably after following these instructions. Basically a bunch of hand cycling to smooth things out. With the cam in the 3rd groove (final round of the burst) and the hammer cocked, you "flick" the hammer down repeatedly. This smacks the disconnector surfaces past each other and helps clearance the system, breaking any burrs or minor clearance issues. If you can't get the diaconnector to let go of the hammer with the flick trick, then you need to very gently file the tip of it back so it doesn't engage the hammer as much. Also, somehow using a real M16 burst trigger or a custom trigger design so that both disconnector springs are captured instead of the second one being freestanding would be much nicer. At least with my trigger, the CARL's spring has to sit on a slanted surface for it to not be bent at the top. |
| I finally got mine running today. The gun it was in before has a tiny gas hole and will barely cycle an H buffer with a can. Moved it to a 14.5" with a Faxon barrel, h2 buffer, ran perfect for 3 mags. |

I now have three CARLs, and now they’re all paired with Gen 1 ARC-Fires. I bought several when they were blowing them out around the V2 release date. The first two worked after the tweaking described above, and the third one dropped right in. Seems their QC is trending in the right direction? The third one went in my new M4 Carbine build. |
