Here is the upper I have:

Because of the fixed FSP, what is the best method of attaching the compensator?

Should I use a standard upper receiver vice block? Or what? What is the best tool(s) to use?

Use barrel vise jaws.
While you would probably get away with clamping the upper people have damaged their weapons doing that.

Normally I use a regular vise. http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/bench-vise-blocks/ar-15-m16-upper-receiver-action-block-prod22385.aspx this works pretty good.

Barrel block or a Reaction Rod would be the best options.  You can make a barrel block out of a 2x4 with a couple of tools on the cheap too.

Just making sure but that is a 16" barrel correct as it looks like it is?  Trying to loosen a pinned FH would be difficult

Haha yes, it is a 16. I've already gotten the A2 off...it was a bitch. We figured out why...there was rust on the threads. I cleaned it up and it looks fine now.

What is the best way to cut the 2x4 for the barrel block?
