I have a 18" barrel with a mid length gas system. Should I get a 12" forearm and go over the gas block, or should I go with a 9.2 " standard forearm (plan on going with a YHM light weight 4 rail forearm)

12.5" will give you better sight radius.

1. how big are your hands? just kidding

Well, if it's just a toy, a couple ounces won't mean as much, so I'd go with the longer rail, a 12.0 (or a 13.2 even).  I think it'll look better with the 18" barrel.  Plus most of the 18s I've seen are heavier profile more precision-oriented anyway so you'd have more room and better support for a bipod.

I voted for the 12" rail. I even like the longer rails on the shorter barrels.

Thanks for all the good input, I think I will go for the 12"
