SOPMOD, far and away my first choice between the two.

+1 for the VLTOR
Link Posted: 9/8/2005 11:58:26 PM EDT
Have a Vltor for my personal AR, and also using it for my issue M4. Taking it for its first field problem in less than a week. So far is been great, only negative experience has been the loss of one of the battery tube caps, still a little steamed about that.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 2:30:28 AM EDT
SOPMOD is the only stock I would consider other than a Magpul.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 2:46:07 AM EDT
I have both and like both. Neither has anything that makes it significantly better than the other. It would come down to you trying both and selecting the one that best fits you.

I'd like to try a Magpul some day also, but don't really see the need. Maybe some day I'll dedicate an OT shift to getting a Magpul.

I will go SOPMOD myself

how is the weight for a SOPMOD compared to a regular M4 ribbed tele-stock?
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 3:31:22 AM EDT
SOPMOD weighs 17 oz, IIRC. I don't know what the ribbed one weighs, but subjectively the SOPMOD is heavier. It helps balance out the Gucci gear, for one thing.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 3:48:11 AM EDT
I already have two Vltors, a standard and a club foot model and they're great.

I'm going to get a SOPMOD next for my LMT Defender 2000 M4 carbine.

It would be better if I could get it through a group buy.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 4:01:18 AM EDT
SOPMOD.

Because I don't always shave.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 4:18:03 AM EDT
How solid is the SOPMOD or VLTOR compared to a regular M4 Collapsible stock?

It's about the same but the SOPMOD and Vltor have a better cheek weld.

If you want a more solid collapsable stock get the Magpul M93B.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 4:27:14 AM EDT
Exactly what I wanted to confirm, thanks!
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 4:54:06 AM EDT
+1 for the Vltor stock.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 5:01:26 AM EDT
SOPOD, but I would not kick a VLTOR out of my bed. Both are top of the line products.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 5:16:45 AM EDT
I can't justify spending more money for a stock that holds batteries. I have more pockets than I need on my camouflage. They hold batteries fine.

If one was given to me, I would probably take the VLTOR, but only cause it looks cool.

I would only take the SOPMOD if I decided not to use a different stock than what I have. I would sell it soon after it was given to me.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 5:28:35 AM EDT
I'm ready for another SOPMOD.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 5:51:10 AM EDT
I own a Vltor or two. I'd like to try a SOPMOD, but that would be dependent on the price. They're just to pricey.

Exactly, which is why Im hoping to establish a group buy, I want a SOPMOD baaaaaaaad but trying to buy one out right is like
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 9:28:45 AM EDT
Find you one of the SOPMOD clones/toy/airsoft stocks. They are close enough for you to get the fell and function of the real ones and may help you decide if it is for you. Simply sell the toy stock when you decide to get the real one.

Why not put up pictures of both and make it a poll......
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 9:54:22 AM EDT
I'd like to try out the SOPMOD.

Same here, but I'd jump in on a group buy for either.

That poll and picture thing is a great idea, you are some kind of genius....
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 10:41:52 AM EDT
SOPMOD if I wanted a to use medium/long range optics on a carbine with a collapsible stock.

I sure am! I hear voices in my head that tell me to do these things

If you could own a SOPMOD or VLTOR would you?

I can, and I do, own a SOPMOD and I'll be looking for another soon. 'Thought about the VLTOR, but don't like the butt or someother thing that I didn't like but can't recall now. I did get the VLTOR buffer tube for my next build, 'cause the LMT buffer tube has some thread issues for some people, although mine worked OK (could be a little better).

Sheesh they're not that expensive.

I have the VLTOR standard Carbine Modstock right now on my DPMS Panther Carbine. I am ordering my next AR (DPMS AP4 Panther Carbine) with the LMT SOPMOD. This way, I will have the best of both worlds.

Another vote for the SOPMOD.

Who wants a stock that most people don't know how to pronounce?

BTW, it's uhl-tar.
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 2:39:13 PM EDT
Well heres the interest in the GB, im still waiting on an email from arfcom - but does anyone actually know what it takes to organize and have a successful GB?
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 8:05:25 PM EDT
anyone at all?
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 8:28:39 PM EDT
I'd like about 3 of them, but can't find/afford them...

Now if there were a GB with a good price... I might like the same amount
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 8:58:45 PM EDT
I've heard on this forum that some SOPMODs are beginning to get loose around the tube, becoming rattletraps.

And its heavy

And its expensive

And it only comes in one color

And its too long
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 10:07:21 PM EDT
VLTOR
Link Posted: 9/9/2005 10:28:00 PM EDT
If you laid both on the table in front of me and said "they're free", I'd be out the door so quick, it'd look like Rosie O'Donnell on the way to a free all-you-can eat.

If I could only have one, I'd probably take the SOPMOD. It looks more comfortable on the cheek, but I'm not sure about the straight up and down buttplate.

Ok guys Im still waiting on an email from arfcom, but I got into contact with VMT and Cindy(?) said she was going to be talking to the powers that be about a possible buy straight through them, that way I or anyone else whom is nominated thats been on the board longer than me will have to deal with all of our moneys. Keep your fingers crossed (and your legs if your really needing to go pee)

AFAIK, Kisara was the only member here who has posted anything about looseness in a SOPMOD stock, then he updated with this:

"I checked out several more weapons equipped with SOPMOD stocks belonging to Duffy and SMGlee, and theirs seem the same so I guess it's normal...I inspected the inside of the stock and found that the latch pin hole is fine, with no elongation at all."

Mine is holding up perfectly well on a full-auto carbine.

And its heavy.

Many prefer the added weight to balance out a front-heavy (read accessorized) carbine.

And it's expensive.

You usually get what you pay for.

And it only comes in one color.

You can always paint it.

And its too long.

Many prefer it's longer length due to the fact that your face isn't resting halfway on the buffer tube.

Got one of those.
Think it is about time to try out a SOPMOD.

Magpul for me!...oh wait!...
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 8:28:23 PM EDT
As long as the Vltor is the newer model with the caps that pivot off during removal, I'd say they're an even match so get them both. I've gone a step farther and permanently added a Pachmayr pad on the back to bring the stock more along the length of the LMT, and filled in the zig-zags with AcraGlas. I also removed the top sling loop.

HG, you're new here so take note: Posting photos of airsoft toys here in the tech forums does not go well with the mods or the members.

I reckon the VLTOR but I actually prefer a tiny CAR stock with rubber buttplate (for LOP)! The less in the way of armor the better for me.
