How do you tell if an A1 port door is original or a repro?  Most of the time they looked aged or have soaked in allot of oil over the years, but what if you encounter one that looks like new on an upper?  Do the repros stand out in some way?

what about the inside lug  (whatever the staked thing holding the detent, etc).
Is it shaped or staked differently?
pics of both would solve it.

The only way I would know how at this point is to keep them in separate containers

Colt on top reproduction on bottom.

Don't have GM or H&R for comparison but I believe the H&R is closer to the reproduction with sharper edges. Not sure on GM without looking at pics.

those stake marks are the give away.

All of mine are from demilled M16s (which I know for a fact were colt) or royal tiger (which were 100% colt). They look like the top.

Jhud,

Do you know if the port doors that Royal Tiger currently has listed are A1's?

I need another A1 door and Rifle Supply is out of repops.

Looks like an a1. They have 1 left according to site.
I would call to ask.
The condition of rti parts ranged from like new covered in grease to poor .
At that price it's worth a try regardless

Either the H&R or GM had rounded corners on the rectangular pad, I don't remember which.

Thanks. Not that it matters at present since I don't have either H&R or GM at present but never know what one may stumble across on life's pathways and it may be info helpful to others.  About all I can remember when I see them is they aren't Colt.
