A friend and myself were just discussing the going rate for 30 round magazines.  We are able to handselect USGI 30 rounders ourselves for $10 each.  I know there are quite a few places that want $20+.  Gunshows and most online prices are a joke.  With a new spring and follwer we are getting "new" mags for something like $15 each.

What are prices like in your local area?  Can you get them cheaper online than you can local?

Cheaper online than my area or the funshows. They are usually picked over and of poor quality and want $20+ for 20% finish on them.

I only buy on the EE and have noticed the prices dropping considerably lately for out of wrapper mags. NIW mags are holding steady on the price though.

By me, in NY, the going rate is anywhere between $20.00-$25.00 for used USGI mags, and $25.00 for the British steel mags.  That is about all that is offered in the stores in my neck of the woods.  Hopefully when I relocate back down to Florida things will change....

What is an "EE" - and how would you find that?

$20 for 20% finish?  I guess the finish isn't that big of a deal when you can recoat them, but that still sounds kind of steep.

Agreed on the refinishing of them but if they are that worn out it raises the possible questions of 1) how rough were they treated? 2) possible cracks? 3) springs worn out? 4) feed lips seperate out of tolerance?

I usually pay between $22 and $25 for NIW 30-rounders and $25 for NIW 20-rounders.  Used 20-rounders can be had for $20.  These are gunshow prices.  Few stores around here carry mags and those that do sell them for a premium.

I was surprised to see just a local Military Surplus store selling 30 rounders for $15.
I didn't think surplus stores sold mags.

Is this common in other areas?

Cheapest I've seen online is cruffler, $15-$17.

Thank you for the assist on EE. Both of you - I'm just suffering from sticker shock. I bought my first Colt AR in 78 and thought I really got the guy good I sold it to - $350 and that included 30+ magazines (all Colt stuff).

My son suggested I come here to get an idea of what things cost today.

I have bought some 15 assorted mags off the fine folks posting on the EE. In all cases, they have been as good or better than described or pictured. Every transaction has been smooth as silk, and I haven't paid over $19 (NIW) for any of them. No better place to shop IMHO. The deals are there.

I just bought two 30 rounders tonight local at a miltary surplus store operating out of his house. I was somewhat surprised. I'm not too good at judging finish but I'm guessing 75 to 80%. $12.95 each. One was OKAY and one was Center Industries.Look very nice. I will be going back.

AT THE FUN SHOW HERE IN ARKANSAS,I FOUND SOME DECENT DEALS. I FOUND SOME 90% USGI 30S FOR $15.00.CENTERS,LABELLS,PARSONS. HAD TO LOOK THOUGH, MOST USED MAGS WERE ATLEAST $20. NEW USGI WERE RUNNING $25 TO $35. PARKED BRIT MAGS WERE $20 TO $25. LOCAL GUN SHOPS ARE VERY HIGH ON MAGS.
