How do I tell if my Colt Gov't Carbine A2 is a "green label."

If it is in fact a "green label" gun, what is it worth?

When i bought the gun new in 1997 the original owner said it was a green label gun, I am thinking about selling it now and saw that the "green label" gov't carbine on gunbroker.com is going for $2,000.00 new. Thank you for all your help

You got yourself a "blue label" if it was made in 1997.... not that it matters that much. You had to know the manufacture date or serial number lookup. Colt can tell you for sure.

Aint a Colt made worth $2000.... unless it is a true rare collector's item. And even if it WAS a green label, it wouldnt be worth that much. But Grean label govt. carbines do tend to bring a premium.

Off-hand, I'd say you have a "Green Label" if it does not have a sear block. "Green labels" R6520 are worth around $200 more than a Blue Label R6520 in equal condition. A new-in-box preban R6520 get around $1900 at the moment.

GRADES

100% = $1,900
98% = $1,750
95% = $1,650
90% = $1,500
80% = $1,375
70% = $1,250
60% = $1,050

The Government Carbines were made from 1988-1990. Blue Labels didn't start until 1991, so it has to be a Green Label.

I bought this gun unfired in 1997, I don't know when the original owner bought it. Iwould say this gun is atleast 90% condition, it has had less than 500 rounds through it. What is a fair price to ask in EE. Keep in mind that I don't beleive in inflated prices, just what's fair and I would like it to move rather fast. Thank you.

I'd get lots of opinions so you dont sell yourself short. Best bet, is to start high, and just keep dropping the price. I'd guestimate a green 6520 at around $1300 to 1500. Might be worth more to someone in a ban state, who wants a true Colt Govt. model.

The Colt AR-15 A2 GOV'T CARBINE (R6520) ceased production in 1994. Both Green and Blue Label R6520 were produced. The current LE production is a different model - AR6520.

Again, do you have a sear block in yours to prevent the installation of a DIAS? You can't tell a blue from a green by the lower receiver ID.

mm34b, thanks for the heads-up. Biggerhammer shows 88-90, so it appears that it needs to be updated with the correct info.

As far as blue/green labels go: generally the green labels will be large-pivot slabside lowers with standard firecontrols, and blue labels will be small-pivot, large firecontrols, sear block, and mag fence. But with Colt, anything is possible.
