I'll preface this by saying I'm not mechanically inclined, nor does my brain understand the concept of "hand-eye coordination."

So, how do I install an ejection port cover?  As far as I can tell it is physically impossible to get the rod into the two little holes because the forward assist is in the way.  What am I missing?

I put mine in before barreling the upper.  Ymmv

+1

I've put them in from the other side on slickside uppers, but I bet you probably can't do it on one with a forward assist...

It can be done with the FA installed.  I did it once.  You have to "work" the rod around the FA, but not to bad.  Getting the "C" clip on can be challenging in the limited space.  Hand/eye coordination is likely needed for this.

You can insert the hinge pin through the rear pivot point first. Then continue with assembly from there.

In other words, it's a bitch, but it can be done.

One tip. Put a piece of electrical tape on the underside of the hump, so the rod doesn't scratch it up when you're working it in from under the hump.

That seems like that's how it's supposed to happen, but since I purchased a complete rifle that didn't come with the cover, I have no choice.

When I get home I'll try to force it in.  Thank you everyone!

Doesn't sound like it was a "complete" rifle to me.

Don't force it. Wiggle it in. You will have to get the dust cover started on the pin before you insert it too far or it will bind on you. Just keep playing with it, it'll go.

True, but you'd have to take that up with Alexander Arms.  Here is what it says in their FAQ:

My Beowulf® has no ejection port cover - did you forget to put it on?

No, we didn't forget it. The Beowulf was designed to not have an ejection port cover. Clearly the port is much larger than a typical AR-15, so no, you cannot retrofit one. Trust us, you don't need it.

The catch is, they were wrong and you CAN retrofit a cover to fit the larger port.  Steve at www.50beowulf.com sells them so I picked one up.  I just can't figure out how everyone else installs theirs
